If The laka on the plats is quality one it will not work cuz the pigments of the color wount sink to it. This will totally set the color, producing a longer life to the finish. Most likely the heat is helping to set the marker to the surface by burning of unnecessary dies and chemicals in the oil based or regular sharpies. As I alluded earlier in this post, I really don't think that Sharpies are the most ideal markers to use to paint on rocks. Green stayed just fine, orange turned to almost red which is fine, but yellow and blue and basically like a cream color now.
